Product Placement

Jack "modeling" good baby behavior (sleep!) and the hottest gear from ONE. Be like Jack, wear ONE stuff!

In Character - 2nd Installment

Back by popular demand, here's the baby thespian acting out some new assignments. OK, they're not from Vanity Fair, JLW did not get the call from GC, but it's a good audition.

1. The caterers (aka, mom and dad) have just laid out today's lunch spread. You're perusing it to see if they remembered your special request: CANADIAN Nova lox, with capers, lemon juice, fresh ground pepper, and a splash of EXTRA VIRGIN FIRST PRESS COLD PRESS olive oil. No onions.

2. "...so I says to the guy, 'I don't care what your name is, get your g*dd*m reindeer off my roof!'"

3. "I'm gonna ask you again, did you or didn't you? Just answer the question." (Jake LaMotta)

Breaking News: Video Coverage Begins*

Hi everyone. Under intensifying pressure from Jack's fanbase (not to mention his long-distance girlfriend, Emme**), the dawn of video coverage is finally here. We won't promise we'll do this too often - let's be honest, he's not scoring goals here - but in this episode, Jack demonstrates he can be awake and interactive for a full minute and a half. Other recent milestones include: sleeping for five-and-half hours straight (a big hit with mom!), enjoying swingtime for 45 minutes, and shattering the previous single-day record for poopy diapers (was 11, is now 13). Warning, some content may be NSFW. ;)

Pork Bellies? Lemme Tellya About Pork...

Here's Jack, taking in the latest business news from MSNBC this morning - and bearing a striking resemblance to the E*TRADE "Shankapotomous" baby (see below). Jack says, "I can't believe the queasiness in the commodities markets - it's just a few sick pigs. We're gonna eat bacon, and lots of it, 'til we're gone from this earth. Plus there's a billion Chinese and nothin's gonna stop them eatin' pork!"

Baby's Jack's Looks: The Jury is Still Out...

CLICK PHOTO FOR LARGER IMAGE

No doubt this will change with each week that goes by (and we will try to keep up with the matching photos!), but we thought it'd be fun to post pics of around 2 weeks of all three of us. (Stephanie is on the far left.) The blond hair is a bit of a giveway, but the eyes, nose, and mouth are a toss up. Let's hope the height is too! ;)

Here's to the Moms!

Here's to the moms, who both recently completed their inaugural pilgrimmages south, from New York and Toronto, to get in a little QT with the newborn Jack. We're grateful to Michele (Stephanie's mom) and Sue (Ken's mom) for all their wisdom and helping hands during these hectic, and mostly sleepless, first couple weeks!

Wide Awake

Jack's "awake" time per hour, per day is steadily on the increase. Presumably, this has led to an increase in cognitive activity. Here he is on morning #11, opining on what he read on Huffington Post. Now he says he's thinking of starting his own blog. "Enough of this cute baby crap," he explained, "I want to know into why Condi approved waterboarding."

Asleep at the Weal

Another tough day at the office for Jack.

After the Bath

After peeing all over himself (despite dad's advice this was not really accetpable behavior until college), Jack tolerated a mid-afternoon scrub. Then he got to snuggle up in his plush green frog towel. What a contraption. You've heard of home schooled? This is home spa'd!
The big news today is Jack made weight - again. He is back to his birth weight in just nine days. We are thrilled and relieved. A nice reward for 9 hours/day of elaborate feedings. Way to go, Jack!

In Character: Starring Baby Jack

CLICK PHOTO FOR LARGER IMAGE

OK, so it's not actually Vanity Fair, and it wasnt photographed by Howard Schatz, but here are some of the many faces of Baby Jack after just one week.

Here's a sampling of the assignments we gave him:

1. You're hungry, but being offered something that doesn't come in a boob shaped container. You're not sure you trust it.

2. You love Guinness. You've just finished the first pint of your life and there's a bit of froth still lingering on your upper lip.

3. You've had four pints of Guinness. You're a little drunk. Mom says, "You're the cutest baby on the block," to which you say, "Aww shucks, I know."

4. You're Alan Greenspan and the global economy has just collapsed. Some think you're partially reponsible. The interviewer asks you, "Is capitalism broken and will market fundamentals ever be the same?"

Day 6: Midnight in the Garden of Pooped!

So we thought we were good, tending to our newborn AND posting photos to the blog everyday. Well, ha ha, that was short lived and, ummm, not altogether realistic. Here's why: Raising humans is a non-stop, round-the-clock, all consuimhg activity. It's ridculously exhausting. It's also most rewarding thing ever. Here's some of the evidence.

Midnight in the Garden of Poop

Three poops on day three - just like the doctor ordered. Now that, my friends, is a milestone. Burrito Jack is down for the night (aka, until 2:35am). Swaddled in love.

Papou-razzi

People.com disappointed us with their offer to have exclusive rights to this photo, so you get to see it here first. Papou (aka, Richard) snapped it up while mom and dad were absorbed by their new little one. Here Baby Jack is just about two hours away from being three days old.

OK, One More!

Nitey nite!

Home at Last

Stephanie and Baby Jack at home at last. Last update for tonite - we're all on fumes (though Jack is on a slightly different kind!).

Leaving Georgetown

Happy parents and a happy baby, about to leave Georgetown Univesity Hospital for home. Thanks to the incredible staff at GUH, both in Labor & Delivery on 3 (Happpy Easter, everyone!) and in the materity ward team on 2 North. Doctors, nurses, residents, techs, consultants, audiologists, all tended to Stephanie and Baby Jack with the utmost care and professionalism. Thank you GUH!

48 Hours: Stephanie and Baby Jack

Tuesday afternoon, about 48 hours in, and at least one of us is getting some sleep. :)

Day 2: Morning Nap

Ooooh, I love the nightlife, I got to boogie...

Baby Jack arrives - April 12, 2009 at 4:21pm EST

Little fella wanted to watch the Masters, I guess - and he did, arriving four days early at 4:21 in the afternoon to see Angel Cabrera grind his way to victory. Jack Lowell Weber weighed 6 lbs, 7 oz and meaured 20 inches long. Mom was heroic in delivery and is recuperating nicely. Thanks everyone for your love and support!

The Bear is Here

Here's a close-up of the wonderful painting, "The Bear is Here," by Maine artist Rebekah Raye. As Rebekah explains, "The Bear" is a mixed media painting done with ink applied with a goose feather, as I love the line quality of the goose feather quill. Watercolor is applied then I finish up with pastel so the colors are vibrant. I was inspired by the bear that visited us in the spring last year. I usually like to mix my media, as certain combinations make the painting richer." We love the bear already and know Jack will, too.

Inside the Nursery!

Here are your exclusive, worldwide, first-ever looks inside the newest nursery on Windom Place NW, an oasis of mom-baby comforts and bright yellow sunshiney hues. Thanks to JBO'H for the inspiration and thanks to the wonderful Maine artist, Rebekah Raye "The Bear is Here". He will keep Baby Jack safe and sound.

Animals are Parents Too

Inside the freshly minted nursery, the dogs are getting ready in their own way. Maddie says, "I can has baby, too?" and Parker says, "Baby CPR skills, yer doin' it wrong."

The Nursery, aka, The Former Home Office

Behind closed doors, off limits to girls and girl dogs, Ken and Parker have been busy transforming the once hallowed ground of Ken's so-called home office. After nearly ten years of procrastination, thousands of games of online Scrabble, countless hours of fantasy hockey, and a little bit of work, the office is now closed. It has been transformed into a sanctuary for mom and baby. Tune in tomorrow for a sneak peek at the finished product!

39 Weeks: Bonus Coverage!

After a night of tumbling and making mommy snore in nine different keys, Baby Jack shows off his early morning napping form. Later, he turned out to be very cooperative at his weekly check-up - 120 heartbeat and head down (but still a little high).

39 Weeks!

Apologies for the gap in coverage here, everyone. Apparently, getting ready for an actual baby takes real effort in the real world. Talk about time consuming! But nothing compared to what's ahead, we know! Here's Stepahnie looking great at 38 weeks and 5 days. And little Maddie looking uncertain about her future as the center of attention.
